Outreach Services

The McCarton Center Manhattan’s Outreach Program provides behavioral support and education to parents, caregivers, and teachers to foster the growth and development of children across all environments.


Parent and Caregiver Training

Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) provide one-on-one training and support to parents and caregivers at home and in the community.

Our trainings teach parents and caregivers specific techniques that can be used at home or in the community to increase daily living skills, communication, and social skills while decreasing disruptive behaviors. Our Behavior Analysts work to promote the generalization of previously learned skills, from the school setting to the home or community setting.

Training Topics Include:

  • Feeding

  • Toileting

  • Sleeping

  • Communication

  • Play Skills

  • Independent Daily Living Skills


Teacher Training and Support

Our Outreach Specialists (BCBA, SLP, OT) provide professional development trainings, workshops, and one-on-one consultations for teachers and other professionals. Training sessions and workshops can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your students, teachers, school, or agency.

Our goal is to provide teachers with the tools and support they need to successfully and effectively teach each and every student in their classroom.

Shadow Teacher Services

The McCarton Center Manhattan’s Shadow Teacher Program pairs trained support teachers with preschool students who are in need of extra assistance in a classroom or group setting (camp or after school program).

The Shadow Teacher utilizes various concepts and principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) such as prompting, fading, and reinforcement to increase communication, play, and academic skills in a preschool setting.

Objectives of the Shadow Teacher include:

  • Assisting students in the acquisition of academic and daily living skills

  • Increasing communication and socialization with peers

  • Helping students gain independence in a classroom or group setting

  • Decreasing disruptive or challenging behaviors in a school setting

  • Promoting generalization of previously learned skills to the classroom setting

  • Shadow Teachers collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals to provide consistency across all environments.


Providing Services Outside of New York City

The McCarton Center Manhattan can supervise and manage children receiving ABA therapy outside the New York City area, through interactive video technology. The McCarton Center Manhattan is in the early stages of evaluating an interactive video outreach program, to deliver their multidisciplinary approach and techniques to children outside the NYC area. For consideration into this program, children will need to be evaluated by The McCarton Center Manhattan, meet specific selection criteria and have the necessary dedicated local resources.
